Poseidon is a work for reed quintet that depicts the many shifting moods of the sea god of the same name: the joy of riding the waves in a hippocampus-driven chariot, the rumbling resentment against more powerful brethren, the mystical ponderings of an almighty being, and the terrible anger of the sea itself. The work gives the opportunity for a reed quintet to show off their individual talents and come together in a torrent of color and sound. Poseidon evokes the image of waves crashing down upon its audience, sweeping them off their feet in a display of sheer force.
