On Paper Wings was originally composed for the Red Rock Graduate Wind Quintet at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Inspired by the animated short film Paperman, the work suggests a narrative of folding paper airplanes, testing them, watching them fail to fly, and folding better, more aerodynamic paper planes. A short work about discovery, failure, and perseverance, On Paper Wings is an opportunity to reframe a challenge and overcome it, discovering the joy of learning and doing in the process.
