The American diner rose to prominence in the early 1900s as a pre-fabricated restaurant that could be delivered on trains to communities across the country, with all that was necessary to install them being hooking up the utilities. They have enjoyed a special place in American culture, conjuring a sense of retro nostalgia that has percolated through generations. Jukebox Express is a work that honors the history of the American diner and captures a golden afternoon of laughter with friends sitting around a cozy diner booth.
Jukebox Express was commissioned by Triage Woodwind Ensemble and premiered on March 10, 2022 at Salem State University.
