Bonus Round is a metaphorical work, using pinball as a framework for understand the experience of living with ADHD. A rare foray into post-minimalism, the work explores transforming ADHD from a chronic nuisance into a joyful superpower. Pinball, with its many flashing lights, colorful sounds, and sporadic gameplay allows a person with ADHD to experience the flow state associated with hyperfocus. Bonus Round allows audience to experience that world without necessarily having to have ADHD themselves, creating an opportunity to better understand how many people with ADHD navigate and thrive in the world around them.
Bonus Round was commissioned by Mark Lauer and premiered at the 2024 International Double Reed Society Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA by Mark Lauer and Aimee Fincher.
